About Downfield Forecast
I'm a statistician by training, and I want to spend my working life building tools and analysis that fantasy football players can actually use. Downfield Forecast is how I'm doing that.
Target audience
Most fantasy tools are built for the most common league: a one-season redraft, offense only, on a popular scoring preset. If that's your league, I think I still have some unique things to offer you, but I know that you already have good options. This site is also for the leagues that get left out: dynasty and keeper leagues that have to look seasons ahead, IDP leagues that start individual defenders, and leagues whose scoring rules are unusual enough that a generic ranking puts players in the wrong order. Every projection here is scored under your league's specific rules.
For dynasty and keeper leagues, that means a range for the rest of this season and for each of the next three, at seven positions, the individual defenders included. Each of those horizons is tested on past seasons and the results are on the accuracy page, including the ones that fell short.
Check our work
Every projection service says it's accurate. I'd rather show you. Each projection is a range, not a single number, and the accuracy page grades our models’ projections, week by week, against what actually happened: how often the real result landed inside our ranges, how far off we were, and how we compare with other published projections — including the stats where we come out worse.
When a model is no better than a simple baseline, we say so on the page instead of selling it to you. The kicker board is the plain example: it ranks kicking situations, and it tells you that we can't yet reliably tell two kickers in the same situation apart.
